For Immediate Release
Dec. 16, 2024
As the holidays approach, this is a friendly reminder that the deadline to register for the Sudbury Music Festival is Jan. 31, 2025.
The 2025 Sudbury Music Festival, formerly the Kiwanis Music Festival of Sudbury, will be held from April 2 to April 11, 2025. Participants will once again have the opportunity to gather in person and experience each other’s performances live, carrying on a 78-year tradition.
The majority of Sudbury Music Festival participants will perform and receive feedback face-to-face with their adjudicator. School Choirs, Bands and other Large Ensembles outside of Greater Sudbury will have the option to submit video recordings for adjudication or perform live.
Music teachers and enthusiasts who are passionate about the festival and the opportunities it provides young musicians will certainly have reason to celebrate.
"Festival co-ordinator Louis Simão and the organizing board have been working for the past several months to ensure Sudbury and area music students have a chance to perform and compete as they have over the past 78 years. Our aim is, and always has been, to create as meaningful an experience for the participants as possible," says Festival board chair Ralph McIntosh.
SMF is also pleased to announce that the following adjudicators will be overseeing the following classes in 2025:
Aaron Hodgson - Bands/Ensembles (April 2-3)
Brad Kukko - Guitar (April 4 or 5)
Vanessa Mio-Quiring - Strings (April 6)
Mary Ficzere - Piano (April 7-9)
Marie Baron - Voice/Choral/Music Theatre (April 10-11)
Please note that Sudbury Music Festival is now using Google Forms for registration. Please review the new registration form in advance so you are familiar with what is required. Registrations will close on Jan. 31, 2025. This is a firm deadline, so please be sure to register well in advance.
Also, please be aware a $25 surcharge will continue to be applied per entry for school bands and choirs opting for adjudications within their own schools. This additional fee assists in covering the travel expenses incurred by the Sudbury Music Festival, while still providing each school with a more cost-effective option than arranging bus transportation.
Furthermore, those who intend to participate in the Sudbury Music Festival with the goal of qualifying for the Provincials are advised to contact OMFA before registering for the Sudbury Music Festival to verify whether their selected pieces meet OMFA’s eligibility requirements.
The 79th edition of the festival will also require the support of community volunteers to assist with the supervision of the various festival activities. We invite music lovers and music education supporters willing to volunteer their time to contact Festival co-ordinator Louis Simão at info.sudburymusicfestival@gmail.com or 416 532 8209.
Additional details, such as the venue and exact date of the final concert, will be announced in the new year.
